Silver Bullet Obsession
I continue to be amazed, after all these years, that so many people can be obsessed with the idea that there are Silver Bullets for every problem. The steadfast refusal to accept the the cold fact that the world, technology, people, businesses, and systems of all kinds are complex and messy, and in many cases getting more so just boggles the mind. I'm not sure how so many can be so deluded about a fact that is perhaps completely obvious to anyone whose lived on this planet for more than a decade, yet they are.Silver bullets are far and few between. For just about anything people would like to see them for, if they existed, people would very likely be using them already. The fact that so many of the same problems remain difficult, often intractable, year after year speaks volumes. Many would do well to drop their obsession with Silver Bullets, accept the complexity, and deal with it on those terms. Remaining deluded while on a fruitless search for these leads only to extreme frustration in others who know better.
